Discover NGV Melbourne Exhibitions
The NGV Melbourne exhibitions are more than a gallery: they’re a living, breathing space where exhibitions become stories you can step inside. Every season, NGV presents exhibitions that invite you to pause, reflect, and journey through art at a slower pace.
Whether it’s the internationally acclaimed National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) Triennial, intimate textile displays, or world-class touring shows, each exhibition transforms the gallery into a sanctuary of creativity.
For me, NGV has always been a place where time slows, where I can wander with my daughter or best friend and allow the beauty of art to wash over us.

NGV Triennial Highlights from 2024 (closed exhibit)
Each NGV Triennial in Melbourne is unique, seasonal in spirit, and ever-changing. It’s a seasonal invitation to pause, breathe, and step into a world where art mirrors the rhythms of nature.
In the 2024 exhibition, over 100 projects by artists and designers worldwide were displayed. The Triennial transformed the NGV into a canvas of light, sound, and texture.
I remember wandering through its four levels, lingering in moments of surprise and wonder. Art became a bridge between generations, weaving past and present into a thoughtful journey.
Here are moments from my journey that touched my heart.
The Water Wall at NGV
The Water Wall is always my first stop. Cool mist brushes my face, a sensory reminder to slow down.
During the Triennial, it became a living artwork, glowing green and reflecting fire-lit fountains outside. The juxtaposition of water and flame captured the cycle of life: calm and chaos intertwined.

Liquid Skies by Franziska Furte
Stepping into this installation felt like floating through a hurricane. Swirls of infrared satellite imagery revealed the delicate patterns within chaos.
I thought of Turner’s landscapes: painters and modern creators bound by a love of storms and skies.

J.M.W. Turner
I stood beside J.M.W. Turner’s painting, Falls of Schaffhausen (Val d’Aosta), a work that has always stirred something deep within me.
Turner is one of my favorite painters, and seeing his piece here felt like reconnecting with an old friend.
Knowing that this very painting inspired Franziska Furter’s project added another layer of meaning, weaving past artistry into present creativity.

Mele O Nā Kaukani Wai by Lehuauakea
Standing before this work, I felt the wisdom of Indigenous traditions woven with science. It whispered of rivers, resilience, and the healing power of listening to the earth.

She’s Four Seasons by Lin Fanglu
Four vast textile forms, dyed, knotted, and twisted by hand, embodied the turning of the seasons.
I looked at the fabric and thought of my own recovery journey, each season carrying both endings and new beginnings.
